Was 1972 a Better Year for the Dead or Zep?

I'm sure I'll regret x-posting to both groups this but I have been 
listening to alot of Grateful Dead from 72 and man that was an amazing 
year.  Though I think you'd be hard pressed to surpass LZ from that same 
year.  I wonder if their paths crossed (at the Riot House perhaps?)  Who do 
you suppose were bigger partiers?  I think we know who had the better 
groupies
