If you'd care to hear more of his music, raid the archives of Temple Records and Battlefield Band. He joined BB at seventeen, right out of high school, and played with them from 1991-2001, leaving the band to marry Kate Rusby and join up with her. Temple has/had two solo albums of his, "John McCusker" and "Yella Hoose". www.templerecords.co.uk As someone I might call a friend, I'm hardly unbiased, so I' won't cast opinions. His fiddling style, however, might be best described as VERY heavily Irish-influenced for a Scot. In many ways, he actually grew apart from Battlefield's heavy Scots traditions. If you have access to the albums, compare and contrast John's predecessor, the almighty Brian McNeill, John, and John's BB successor, Alistair White (who comes from Shetland fiddle traditions and the Isle of Lewis). I make no excuses, however, for his choice (or lack thereof) of clothing and hairstyle. Methinks at times he must have picked up some of Ashley MacIsaac's insanity in that regard. <;-)
