Ringo may not be Bill Stewart or Tony Williams, but he proved many times over with the Beatles that he was capable of executing a more intricate fill than THUD-THUD-THUD. Comparing the few extant recordings of the Beatles with Pete Best to those with Ringo, I can't single out anything in particular that Ringo could do technically that Pete couldn't, but I definitely hear more energy and life in Ringo's playing, and it helps the whole band. -- All follow-ups are directed to the newsgroup rec.music.beatles.moderated.
