"What I don't understand is that he made MW work (for the most part), so why the sudden fall?" I think the further from Extreme he got, the less relevent he became and the more confused and "questioning" of his direction he became. What's a guy as talented as Nuno got to be saying to himself when labels just thumb their nose at him? The same shit happens in sports. You slump a little or get traded... then you press. The harder you try the for screwed up your mechanics get and the more you flounder. The point being, sometimes the harder you try the more forced get and they lose their "edge". "He's been going downhill for a while, but Pop1 was a MAJOR disappointment. Like you guys have said, it's all over the place - no real flow." I have to wonder why that is. The more you listen to it the more it seems like he had enough ideas for 2 albums but smooshed it all into one. Instead of focusing and sacrificing some of the stuff for the sake of having solid tunes... he jammed it in. As usual, it's all speculation but I'd guess that either the album was rushed, he wasn't convinced he'd be doing another soon so he wanted to use up all the ideas he had, or he was going for a weird mix of sounds and it just didn't work well... "He needs someone like Gary to help him out, but how did he make MW work?" That's where his head was at the time. Didn't you tell me you hated MW when you first heard it? I had issues with FSFR when it came out but it grew on me. He and Gary worked well together, but even if it's not Gary, I think Nuno... like many other amazing artists (EVH) needs someone there with a backbone to say... NOPE, it doesn't work, sorry, "Try Again". "True, Pop1 was probably just to fulfill the contract, but knowing Nuno's ego, he wouldn't produce anything he thought would ruin his name." Why would anyone release something they think would ruin their name? LOL You dunce! "The only real difference I know of between MW/FSFR and Pop1 was his mother's death. You wouldn't think that would make his music style change THAT much..." It might... that's a good point. The stuff might be all over the place because his head was all over the place. Likewise, depression makes it very difficult to flesh out and ride ideas through to fruition. Inspiration hits and runs... and people that are down usually just have flashes of hot and lots of cold. I wish he'd read some of our old posts and get pissed. Anger usually drives people to the opposite end of the spectrum... lots of hot and only flashes of cold.
