I think you're referring to the parts of the song where she's talking to the audience. There's no online transcript for what she's saying, afaik, but I could write an impromptu one here to give you an idea. This is all off the top of my memory, so forgive me if I miss something.
"So, here's a little snippet of the folksinger at 18 ... [audience cheers] ... I'd just moved to New York ... I had my mouth hanging open for about three days ... [audience giggles] ... I remember vividly the whole learning process with the prostitutes that were working the little cobblestone street below my window ... it was like, 'No Ani, those are not women, they *look* a lot like women' and I was 'Wow...' ... 'They're purty!' ... [audience laughs and cheers] ... And then, and then, and then there was this ... deck ... well, you know, patios in New York are ... the roofs of other buildings ... and there was chalk outlines of bodies on mine. So I inquired about them one day and they said, 'Oh, I don't know, I think they were a joke ...' ... [audience laughs] ..."
From there she starts the first half of Out of Habit. After that, she starts talking again:
"So this one was really popular in the folk clubs in the East Village ... they loved me there, yes indeedee ... I would go there on the open mike night ... y'know, alienate everybody, and then try to get a beer out of one of them! It was like ... [laughs] [audience giggles] ..."
Hallo folks, some time ago I asked the NG about the words ani says at the beginning and in the middle of the "living in clip" version of "out of habit". Unfortunately I lost the answer mail, so now I'm searching again for help with this... Can you help me? Thanx,
Marco
