Americans speak American English, not British English. It is becoming
widely accepted in colloquial circles, and somewhat as a joke, to call
it American. But since I'm a linguist geek, that is a reality in my
life, but maybe not in yours.
Thanks,

Works for me. Ever notice how most computer language packages and have
separate offerings for "English (American)" and "English (UK)" even
though we can generally understand each other.
When I first started watching old BBC sitcoms on PBS, I had to adapt to
the differences in "slang" as I called it, especially to the English
characters referring to the sidewalk as the "pavement," which in the USA
refers to the surface material (usually asphalt) of the street itself.

Of course I fear terrorism, a fraction as much as I fear totalitarianism.
