Re: where to buy qanoun/kanoun?

Hi

Qanoun is a string instrument. The strings are triplets with 3 octaves (
please correct me if I'm wrong) and it's a horizontal instrument usually
placed on the laps ( so it's a lap top ;-)) now they use a table as a
support.
Each string is a note with a whole note difference ( Plz correct me again if
I'm wrong). Half notes and quarter notes are produced by using frets that
are situated at the extremities of the strings and that can be easily
activated during performance and pre-tuned in advance.

In the Arab countries, Qanoun is performed with finger picking. In Iran,
hitting sticks are used but the tuning is different from the Arabic way. You
might have recognised a similar Chinese or Japanese instrument. In Europe
it's known as "Santour".

Now that you know the instrument could you help Ganesh finding one in the
UK?
