Idle mixture might be slightly richer with the evaporative emissions canister
removed...

The carburetor probably has an aluminum plug downstream of the throttle
butterfly, either on top of the carb or underneath it...

Centerpunch the plug, then take a small drill and twist it between your fingers
if you don't have an electric drill handy. You don't have to drill very deep to
pierce the thin plug. Then screw a small sheet metal screw into the hole you've
made and pull the plug out with a pair of pliers.

Then you can turn the idle mixture screw half a turn either way to see which
way helps the throttle response...
