Spear use varies from culture to culture, but a common technique is
how to extract a thrust (rather then thrown) spearhead after a hit.

Rolling and leveraging the shaft out of the wound is performed
immediately when the damage has been done.

Unlike the movie "Excalibur" in which the spear is run completely
through people and becomes useless.
