in japanese, Ki means 'spirit' or 'inner breath'. that 
generally menas your vitality and energy, as well as 
your ability to concentrate your movements and your attention.

if you are watching basketball and somebody gets a nice three
 point shot under a lot of pressure, you say, "oh, he has good ki."

a boxer who manages a knockout punch; you say "he has great ki-me 
(focusing of 'ki')"

you can "sense" it- mostly you just have to know what to look for.
