Hachiwara (meaning "helmet breaker").

A rather sai-like weapon, single-edged, with a slight curve to it, rather
thick blade.
This was one such armor defeating weapon used in Japan.

The major thing to note here, is that Japan didn't really have much in the
way of heavy armor plate, or atleast not in the same vein as western full
plate. Most samurai wore laminated armor, either in full suit, or various
pieces buckled as desired.

Almost any pole-weapon, such as the naginata or the trident, could destroy
the armor.
There was also the no dachi to take into consideration. While this great
powerful sword was anti-cavalry in nature (cut the legs right out from under
the war horse), it could also do a number on armor.
