OTOH, there was a neighbor of mine back in San Diego who was arrested and hauled off as a deserter while at a church picnic, right in front of his family and the rest of the congregation. He got a decent settlement from an embarrassed government after they discovered that he was actually an honorably-discharged Nam vet with a 60% service-connected disability rating and had more decorations than the average GI.
