Children are not allowed to learn at the pace of which they are capable because of lack of time for individual attention, and a reluctance to imply that the others are not doing as well. We have no trouble isolating the best football players for the school team, without regard for the self-esteem of the less talented, but we see doing the same thing for the academically talented as undesirable.
