Re: Lord Lyon in Australia

Mr Rutherford succinctly summarises my reaction to Mr Avital's post in
reply to my info on Lord Lyon.

Lyon has never presumed to grant arms in the name of the Queen of
Australia, and never suggested that he is going to impose any
undemocratic thoughts.

I am glad Mr Avital is so abreast of Australian political
developments. The whole monarchy/republic debate has been pretty poor
and is definitely on the back-burner since the referendum in 1999.

I am sorry but I do not necessarily value the opinion of "any other
man" on matters of heraldry on an equal level with Lord Lyon. If the
"other man" thinks it is right and proper to use the "family crest"
sold to him by an armsmonger who found it on his database, his opinion
is ill-informed.

I reiterate that I would like to hear from Australian lurkers and
posters who wish to attend Lyon's lecture in Sydney. It promises to
be an interesting night.
