Re: SPECIAL ROYAL ISSUE, VANITY FAIR, SEPTEMBER 2003

I have finally got hold of a copy at one of the Narvesen kiosks here
in Oslo. Many interesting articles and lots of good photos, but
unfortunately the mistakes are so many that it almost becomes annoying
to read.

Where on earth have VF got the idea that Princess Märtha Louise from
2002 gave up her allowance (appanage) of "§ 1 mill."?! (p. 194-195).
The fact is that her appanage in 2001 was NOK 120.000, which should be
about USD 17.143. She was *not* trained as a physioterapist at
Bjørknes Private School and the University of Oslo. At Bjørknes she
took classes in order to improve her marks to qualify for *the College
of Oslo's* (Høgskolen i Oslo, Bislet Høgskolesenter) physioterapist
studies. The University of Oslo and the College of Oslo are two
completely different institutions.

Her engagement (and later marriage) to Ari Behn had no relevance to
her deciding to drop the style Royal Highness and allowance. The loss
of appanage, by her own choice, had effect from 1 January 2002 and
took place in connection with the civil list reform. Her choice to
drop her style, with effect from 1 February 2002, was because of her
new-established business.

Crown Prince Haakon never gave an interview to Vanity Fair, the crown
prince couple only met photographs at the Palace. According to the
Palace' information director he never gave the quote "I don't have a
political agenda, but I do definately want to modernize the monarchy
in a way that will make it more worthwhile for me and my children and
for the good of the country".

I really wonder how the articles about the other royals are when they
can make so many mistakes about the Norwegian royals.
