They had the bad business sense to stay in the same location for
decades, instead of abandoning SuperFund sites under guises of
bankruptcies and buyouts.
The smoking gun is an old aerial photo showing oil running from a tank
and forming a nice oil pool in a nearby draining pond. Even though this
groundwater contamination may have nothing to do with the substances
found in nearby well water, I think it will demonstrate a pattern of
neglect and abuse that will weigh against them in court.
Redfield Rifle Scopes Inc. has already been chopped up and auctioned
off by the bankruptcy court. The holder of the property, even before
that happened, is the real estate holding company Brown Group Retail.
They'll be left holding the bag.
Of course, property values going up nearly 70% since 1997 is not going
to help their case.
