Indiana is one of the original shall-issue states, and has
no required safety/training course. I went to the farm this
weekend to shoot and found myself staring down the muzzle
of a drunk 16 year-old's rifle. He was hunting and wandered
by mistake onto our property; he and I just happened to come
over opposite sides of the ridge at the same time and there
just happened to be a buck behind me.

It doesn't help that our property adjoins one of the biggest
hunting spots in southern Indiana.

I doubt that Indiana will implement any coure requirement
in the near future; there is far too much opposition every
time the topic comes up, partly because it is seen as gun
control. Considering how many of these kids rarely touch
a gun except for deer season, and considering what almost
happened Saturday, I'm rethinking my position on requiring
gun safety here. In this particular case, I doubt that it
would have made a difference--whiskey and firearms just do
not mix, ever--but I'm beginning to think that it would be
a good idea.
