I don't know if anyone's reading this newsgroup at all, but I'm going to pretend to have a readership and post occasional progress reports. I've been through the xtank-1.3f source code, and aside from being ancient (simulating threads, for instance, with setjmp/longjmp .. wow, I haven't seen that since SunOS was considered hot stuff), it's pretty clean and easy to understand. Aside from a little selective lobotomizing of the network-checking code, though, I'm leaving the sources of xtank itself alone, for now, while I develop some of the functionality I want as separate library code. As it gets done, I'll see to adding it to xtank. Right now I am concentrating on armor modelling and simulation, using "A Unified Model for Long-Rod Penetration in Multiple Metallic Plates" (Chocron, Anderson Jr, Walker, Ravid) as my guide. I will expand the model to include containment/ceramic/backplate and reactive sandwich composite components, as best I can. At that point, I intend to stop armor/penetration modelling for a while and move on to the next area of enhancement (which I have not decided on). -- TTK
