PS 1 on PS 2 question

Ethics aside, I like to get the most out of PS 1 games on my ps2. IF I
were to buy a PS 1 gameshark with the dongle that plugs into the memory
card slot, would I be able to "even the odds" in the ps 1 games I'd
play on my ps2, or is this a silly idea?
