Around here Wal-Mart supplanted Bradlees, Caldor, and that poor excuse for a retailer, Ames. Prices are about the same. What Wal-Mart had over them was inventory, as in, stuff you needed was in stock. When you buy a vacuum cleaner that uses "U" style bags at Wal-Mart, Wal-Mart actually has "U" style bags. I still shake my head when a manager of Ames said they didn't stock "B" style bags when at the same time they sold the vacuum cleaners that used them. Duh! Also, I don't want to go back to hopping from store to store because a basic item is out of stock. I've saved time and gas now that Wal-Mart is nearby.
