If your opponent counters, you have made them tap down and you can do whatever you want on your turn. That alone makes it very good. It also lets you dig 3 cards into your deck, with no card disadvantage. And with an artifact, it actually is card advantage. Compare with the other choices available: - Catalog is strictly inferior, since you only dig 2 cards into your deck - Concentrate costs 1 more mana and is a Sorcery - Thoughtcast needs your deck to be built around it, and only draws 2 All the other card drawers cost more, and most are strictly worse.
