Well, you're most likely to play it in an artifact-heavy deck, but even in
the case that you draw no artifacts, you're still getting your pick of the
top 3 cards.  If you do discard an artifact, you get better than
Thoughtcast.  Thoughtcast only gives you two cards, Thirst for Knowledge
gives you the two best of the top three.

Most Affinity listings I see are running both, mind you, because they're
both fairly good there.
