Hypothetical card: Null Beetle 0 Artifact Creature - Insect 1/1 Now, clearly the card is undercosted. Wizards will never print a free 1/1 without a drawback. It would render far too many creatures highly obsolete, as well as breaking the color wheel. My question is: Is that card actually any good? Would it see play? Affinity decks, at first glance, would like it. Or would they? Frogmite is eschewed by many builds, which is typically a 2/2 for free. Weenie decks like having creatures with power greater than casting cost, but is a 1/1 worth it? It's not like Cloud of Faeries (which is sorta like a free 1/1)sees play, other than as a combo piece. Being able to drop two 1/1 dudes on turn one isn't a great deal of tempo, and it's a really weak play later than turn 3. Fruity Pebbles (Enduring Renewal/Shield Sphere/Goblin Bombardment combo) could use it in place of Sphere, I suppose, but Sphere is the better card for giving the deck time to set up the combo kill. There would certainly be some casual decks using it, as it's a new concept. No unconditionally free creatures with power greater than 0 have ever been printed. Can anyone think of a competitive deck that would really make slots for this? Or is it a card that is fundamentally broken, yet unplayable? -- Justin
