Two reasons.  One, I'm almost certain VTES doesn't have the card sales
to support serious money prizes the way Magic does.  Magic is on a
whole other scale than VTES profit-wise - probably a hundred times as
large if not more.

Two, VTES has the possibility of kingmaking in each game to an extent
that Magic and poker and other money games really don't.

As David Cherryholmes said, it would be interesting to see what kinds
of decks (and what kind of play) came out of VTES for money.  It might
be fun to see (though I'm not sure if it would be fun to play :-) the
results of a tournament where, say, each participant paid $10 to enter
and the winner took the whole pot.  But an organized pro tour in the
way Magic has one, well, I doubt that VTES is likely to see such a
thing in the foreseeable future.
