Yes you can. But as stated above, you must be faster than Mr. B! It's
a good idea to get to speed 4 so you can freely zap him from your
WoDL's. In my lastest (read: only) victory, my rogue successfully
discharged 18 WoDL blasts (from four wands) because he had two
perma-speed items plus a Staff of Speed. Your wands and staves become
a liability in melee (hand-to-hand combat) because the Balrog can
touch to drain charges. But IMHO, one can make the fight much quicker
and easier if you start by zapping your dreaded foe for about 1500 hit
points before he has a chance to close in on you!
