>> Any advice on this chracter woudl be appreciated. I looked threw the news >> group posts back to 2001 and didn't find much about halfing mages. Are >> these guys viable characters? I'm worried i'll have such pathetic hit >> points I'll always have problems. I wouldnt worry to much about your lack of hit points, as a mage you should be concentrating fully on combat from afar using offensive spells. Personaly i find Mage characters very easy to level and as Brian pointed out your high INT means that you can in affect gain a fair amount experience just from using newly gained spells. I wouldnt even worry about the STR affecting your tunneling for treasures as at level 9 you gain the Turn mud to stone spell, which you can use for tunneling, on the related subject of that spell, if you didnt already know it can also be used as an offensive spell against stone or earth kind of creatures such as earth spirits and elementals, stone giants, stone and clay golems and xorns. Getting back to leveling, you could also use a trick to "powerleveling". The trouble with going down to far with a low mage is that harder monsters can gang up on you and due to the nature of dungeons, you can easily find yourself in a tight spot. However, you could use a scroll of recall and go back to town level when you gain level 11 and use the polymorph other spell on the town people to fight harder creatures, this however can be very risky, nothing is more horrorfying than an ancient multi-hued dragon or emporer lich at level 11, they are a few exceptions, the balrog can not be summoned with polymorph and neither can the evil iggy. You could try the power leveling idea but do so with caution, it is a risk but its the gamble you take for power and levels quickly. Have fun and best of luck. Darklon.
