Re: [Announce] H-World 0.2.4 + Request for help

Your example of a quest you would like is still just "rescue X from Y" only with a few added twists.

Right. IMO the twist are the things that make it intersting. I.e. finally getting to the price, you to learn the princes isn't there at all. This is a little shock for the player at that point, because all he did so far aimed at rescuing the princess from the antagonistic kingdom.

I don't lnow how far you've got into Arcanum, but the main story is full of such twists :)

Now I need a genius, telling me how to create such quests in a random or semi-random manner ... see my answer to Brian Angelettis message.

Also keep in mind that this is a roguelike development
group. RLs are not exactly story-heavy games.

Right. I just posted this request for help here I thought some of the RL fans might be interested in more generic CRPGs, too.

While such complex quests are may fun the first time
you play their replay value is pretty low IMO.

I know. I'd like to link randomness and deep stories, but I don't know how.

Arcanum definitely has only a very low replay factor, although I'm now playing it for a seconds time, and I know that others played it two or three times. But that's very little replay compared to RL games.

My core problem here is, if I create a game with fixed quests, it isn't fun to play because I know all solutions. If I'd know how, I'd try to avoid fully hardcoded quests. A predefined world doesn't seem so bad, though.

My game (Star Hammer) is still a RL. The primitve
missions are barely an excuse for hack'n'slash.
But I understand your problem better now and
would suggest that you rather/additionally ask for
help in an RPG/CRPG group/forum.

I did that, too. The message posted here was just a slightly modified copy of a message that I had sent to a RPG developers forum a while ago.

If you think it's too off topic here, I'll try to move the discussion elsewhere. There is a forum that has a few threads about H-World:
http://www.simugraph.com/forum/

But the forum is a bit awkward, and it needs registration to post, so I don't think it can replace this place. Anyways, if I just disturb the people here, I'll quit the discussion. Just let me know.
