> P.S. Is it 'just me' or cool items are much more common in Dr? Just found > two small chests at 350'. They contained Amulet of Resist Acid, Ring of > Slaying (+4,+4), Ring of See Invisible and - Ring of Speed (+3). Not so > much, of course... but still useful for fleeing from orcs. Oh, and > that Smoky Potion at 50' turned out to be !oSTR after I've sold it... Open all chests on DRAng.... they are like pockets of treasure up to 40 deeper levels! at dlvl 30 you can find dlvl 70 stuff in chests. BTW, follow my advice... if you play DRAng.... i reccomend you to max your stats at 30 instead of 40, cuz very nasty monsters are shallower in the dungeon, and at 40 youīll start facing a lot of greater hell wyrms, nightmares, nightwings, drolems.... Yes, Randarts in DrAng can be *really* cool.... and OAng combat system is just supreme... so much that Dr still is my fave variant... Randart weapons can have both higher dice and MORE dice... I found already a 11d7 Exec Blade with a dragon :/ ..... and a 9d5 Exec Blade with my Dunedain Warrior in DRAng :) itīs in the ladder. Oh yeah... every resist source you have in DRAng stack and HALVE damage... so itīs somewhat like the % resists of EY. EX: 3 sources of fire resist = 87.5% less fire damage... the first hell wyrm i fought with my warrior, i had 6x fire resist.... :) Thatīs why i say DR is balanced... itīs easier to stack resists with humanoids. Lately i ONLY play variants with OAng Combat: DrAng, OAng and Sang. I just cant stand anymore normal ang combat system. How to kill Morgoth with a melee class and bashing his head: get some ! of life, some ! of *healing* and a *lot* of mass banishment/banishment. Get a nice weapon pref. branded and with slay evi. Get a stack of Mushrooms of restoring, and always have the stack of ? of teleport and plenty of sources of outside speed (! or spell). Heal everytime you have less than 700 HP, and leave the greater potions to those desesperate moments where your HP will reach 300. Try to tackle him only if you have more than 40 total Speed, and with your important stats sustained. Seriously... after playing DR, Vanilla is a piece of cake! I bet i would wipe the floor with Morgoth in the first try if i got to play V again :) Before fighting him, kill every nasty unique.... the ones from dlvl 50 or more.... or youīll be in trouble. U can leave like the Ant Queen :) if the screen is full of ants, it isnīt so full of balrogs or ancient wyrms :) With a Dragon, i think this may be *much* easier than with a humanoid, cuz Dragons can deal 3 or 4 times the damage a warrior can deal... their letdown is low armor and poor resists, that do not matter against Morgoth imho. My first Angband char ever (Vanilla) died at Morgothīs hands..... twas a paladin. I had 3 ! of life and got surprised by mana storms (an attack that no other monster had w/ such intensity). Twas not very hard to reach him cuz i used to play DII Hardcore.... Then i cheated and killed him using 2 ! of life. My weapon was Calris, and i had a lot of nice stuff, like boots of speed +10, Cubragol, all greater rings, every resist, max con. Crossbows??? BLEH! i leave them for the ranger girlies :) But... with a warrior (no OOD) i may need one... Someday i will play a Warrior in vanilla... and then iīll post a green entry instead of a yellow in the ladder :) Cheers -- I will hold the candle till it burns up my arm. I'll keep taking punches until their will grows tired. I will stare the sun down until my eyes go blind. I won't change direction and I won't change my mind... How much difference does it make?
