From: Karen <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> > >bracelets are typically 6-8 tiles. >should I just pick random tiles that look good, >or should I go for a "high-scoring" bracelet? Or would that even have >meaning without the full complement of tiles? It takes 14 tiles to make a complete hand - there's no score without 14 tiles. If your Mom plays American-style mah-jongg, you could put in one each of the wind tiles and make them spell NEWS. Or you could make the bracelet spell out something else. Your letters are limited, though, to NEWS, RG, 0, F, and I. The white dragon is "zero" which can be thought of as an O. And a 1 looks like an I. There aren't a whole lot of things you can spell with these - FRIENDS, WINGS, RING, SWORGIF, stuff like that... >(Unrelated aside: she's kicked around the idea of buying her own set, but >has been told that no stores carry them locally (northwest Arkansas) >because it's illegal... they're used for gambling. Does Arkansas law also prohibit the sale of playing cards and dice because those too are used for gambling? Does Arkansas law state that playing cards, dice, and mah-jongg tiles cannot possibly be used without any gambling involved? >She's skeptical, as am >I OK, well, I wouldn't expect to find mah-jongg sets for sale in Arkansas anyway. The only place you can find them here in Los Angeles is in Chinatown, Little Tokyo, and the really big board game chain stores. Most of middle America has to buy mah-jongg sets on the internet.
