"Freeware" depends on your platform -- have you looked at Ghronos
(available at the usual venues) for Palm OS?  See, for example:
http://ghronos.sourceforge.net/ .  It understands several styles of
byoyomi.  It doesn't appear to support the hi-res screens so far, but
you're trying to impress them with your skill rather than your geek
toys, right?  (Boy, my T3 has serious geek appeal!  Too bad my
go skills don't match it.)
