LRP Writing Problem

I'm writing an LRP murder mystery.  The PCs are contestants on a reality
series called 'Big Sister'.  After a brief introduction on stage they are
ushered into the house.  After they get to know each other during dinner,
there is a blackout.  When power is restored, one of the housemates is dead.
I need to find a reason why the PCs cannot contact Big Sister and why there
is no outside intervention.  (If this were to really happen, one of the
production staff would most certainly call the police.)
