Next question is a more stylistic one than a hard rules issue, and that is
head shots.
I should point out that I'm a player in this new game not the GM, but I can
still see a problem here with our game. I would estimate that about 8 out of
every 10 attacks made by a PC is declared as a head shot. the other 2 out of
every 10 is a fully auto burst.
As an aside, if they're calling locations on an autofire attack, add
another -2 penalty. If you've ever fired a burst from an SMG you'll
understand why... they climb like a bastard :>
If you are happy with a hollywood style game this is fine, but when almost
every bad guy goes down with a hole in the head it starts to get a bit
ridiculous. And if the GM decides turnabout is fair play, the PC's aren't
going to last very long. Well even shorter than usual maybe :-)
A sniper with a WSSX can remove most PCs without breaking a sweat. Not
something you want to do every day, but handy for when you need to get
rid of a particularly annoying character.
I guess two points, does anyone do anything different than the standard -4
to called shots, and do you apply the double damage before or after applying
the SP of any head armour?
Damage is applied against armor, damage mods applied (half for AP,
double for head shots, etc) and then BTM subtracted. Getting hit in the
head is serious business.
However... there's no reason why you can't put some serious helmets on
your bad guys. A helm with SP25 and 80% coverage (ie: limited armor on
face) will stop a whole lot of damage. Then add subdermal plating to
your real bad-arse enemies, apply layering rules, and the PCs will have
to be toting some nasty artillery to get the pink mist effect.
And if that still doesn't work, sit down with your players and discuss
the problem. Tell them that you're having a real problem with the
headshot rules and negotiate a change. Consider upping the penalty to
-6, use Jester's EMP check, or get them to tone down the headshots.
And if all else fails, apply in-game pressure. If they're using
head-shots as much as you say, give them a major rep for it. Throw the
media into it, float some rewards from gangs or corps, and start a
city-wide manhunt for the "headhunters". Suddenly they'll find they're
hip-deep in trouble, and everyone's gunning for them. They gotta sleep
some time :>
