Random NPC aka. Cannon Fodder

This is my first substantial post to this newsgroup (and probably my first post usefull to anyone), and english is not my primary language, but here goes..

Do any of you know the situation where the game just calls for some badguy interruption? the situation where the runners stumble across a group of people, and you haven't really prepared the stats for these people? I for one always gets very stressed about making NPCs up on the spot, and always forgets something like combat pool or armor. And the ones i come up with doesn't always quite fit the power level needed.

Well.. here's something i came up with. Fore every power-level (ammount of distributed attribute points) i have made up 5 sets of stats, with calculated Reaction, Combat pool and Natural Recoil Compensation (as of Fields of Fire p. 83), and every level has a set of weapons and armor (which i thought was fitting).

When you need a random NPC you roll a D6 (or just pick one if you feel like it) if the result is 1 to 5, pick the npc with that number, if the number is 6 rol a second time (in the real shadowrun spirit) and this time you pick from the next level. If the result is 6 again, then.. take a guess :)

If your runners need a little figting back this is the group
to look at. They do not necessarily pose a threat in
themselves, but in numbers they could be a factor. Maybe
they have a little skill too.

This could also be the majority of (rival) runners sharing

they guard something valuable you could give them some
security-armor, and maybe a bigger selection of toys. Just a
thought).

Well.. todo: somehow make variation in skill fit into the table as well.. but untill that, i just give them a skill egual to their linked attribute, e.g. Qui 5 = Pistols 5 and so on..

I thought about making an extra level, but someone that good should really be made individually..
