VDMSound doesn't make a DOS environtment. It traps calls to the sound card
from the DOS apps and pumps it through your Sound Card's
Windows/WDM/DirectSound driver. If a game doesn't work in Windows, VDMSound
won't make it work. It just allows DOS games to have sound.
Even with VDMSound (Which all NT/XP users should have ;->), Ultima 8 still
will have sound issues, especially with speech. Best bet is to turn music
on, and sound effects/speech off.
