Gah.  It probably sounds like a lot of work because I described it in such
detail...  How is this version?

Step 1:  Using rat poison and breadmaker, make bread.
Step 2:  In kitchen of castle, replace bread on plate with your bread.

How's that?

Not sure what you mean by 'Darth Vader' syndrome...  But if you do it early
enough that you don't actually lose that much Karma, then you can't complete
the game (because of Yew, maybe the Abyss, etc.), and if you do it late
enough that it doesn't matter if he dies, then you don't have enough time
and opportunity to rebuild your Karma.  And just killing orcs doesn't get
you Karma...  Deeds do.
