There are those that say you must be a Bard to be a sucessful tamer,
but I don't agree with them.  The highly popular templates are the
Tamer-Mage and the Tamer-Treasure Hunter.

You can train up a beetle without taming, just pull up his life bar,
and when it gets low, you mount him and haul but.
