Heh, just don't do what a friend of mine did. I used to build computers for
him. He found people he knew that were wanting a new computer, so we'd have
them order the stuff from newegg.com and ship it to me, where I'd assemble,
configure and update the puter. He would then take it to the person and I would
be available for tech help on the unit. I made $100 for each one. After
watching me many times, he got brave and installed a new MB in his puter. It
worked for awhile, but then he got into upgrading his son's puter, with his son
helping him. This was just like having Gomer and Goober build puters. Next
thing I know, he's calling me whining about this and that, switching RAM, hard
drives and such, until he had both his and his son's puters all messed up. (he
didn't have much luck switching hard drives with XP on them - strangely enough
with my new board I had no problem, even though I was prepared to do a clean
install). Anyway, he sent back the boards (Albatron - not too bad of a regular
board, I may say) and re-did them. Then he called to tell me he saw "magic
smoke" when he turned on his puter and it fried the mb right below the RAM
sockets.
Then he told me that he made sure to use ALL the mounting posts included with
the case (even the springy stamped-metal ones) so the board would be solidly
mounted. Think of it- every single spot where you could put in a mounting post
was filled, even the ones that had no corresponding mounting hole on the board.
( I can see Poly's aghast grin building) You got it- he shorted the hell outta
that board.
Sheesh!
