If your ISP supports it, you can also use procmail to filter all sorts of
stuff. http://www.ii.com/internet/robots/procmail/qs/ contains a quickstart
guide, including links to several virus filters that often throw away
every message with .exe or other virus-prone file types attached.

Everything is possible and will be done fully automatically if your
ISP supports it, but it requires a bit of learning if you want to do
more than the quickstart tells you.
