Clearly you didn't find the other secret (with the soul sphere).
If you did then Idunno..  It sounds like you need to open the 'red' door,
that's a switch down at the end of the upstairs platform in the yellow
key room.  That switch opens the red door at the other end of the level,
which has a switch in it (and a secret to the soul sphere) which opens
the bars blocking the exit.
