No, there's nothing in the GPL that would stop code from a GPLed chess
program being included in another chess program that was entered into a
tournament. If the derivative program were released or in any way
distributed (either in source form or as a binary) that would have to be
done under a license compatible with the GPL but if the derivative program
were not released or distributed, there would be no licensing issues.
