Chess Workbook Ver 2.2 Demo

The chess pieces in Chess Workbook ver 2.2 demo are all black.  I'd
like to make half the pieces White.  They are in the game folder as 12
ICO files pictured as 12 black pieces. I have tried to make half of
them white, saved as ico file, and labeled them appropriately, but
when they appear on the chess board a black square they on will appear
as white.

Is there a way to put a set of chess piece fonts in this folder as ico
files  and have them not change the color of the board squares??

Has anyone used this program successfully??  Do I have to find a
particular set of chess piece ico files??

I'm not a programmer. I am computer knowledgeable.
