Whilst I am not familiar with the Lein middlegame book, the description 
you give leads me to recommend "Chess Endgame Training" by Bernd Rosen.

I don't (yet) own this book myself, although I plan to buy it in the
near future.  (Hence, I would be interested in any other opinions of 
the book.)  I've looked at a friends copy and it seems like an 
excellent training resource.
