David, you are banned from playing in my hypothetical bridge club before you even arrive. You understand nothing about the novice player's mentality. I would reject your fees before you got a chance. This attitude is one of the thing that will doom bridge. Laws nitpickers trotting out their superior knowledge on baby players. Take the example given. Do you think the novices would have called the director if the situation had been reversed? Of course not, that makes that call for the director harrassment and earns you your invitation to play somewhere else. In many, many clubs here where novices and other players do mix, it is announced before the game that there will be no director calls where novices are involved for hesitation, not matter what the situation. They also state flat out that director calls with novices present will only be tolerated to correct mechanical errors at the table. You are right, we certainly have our share of assholes here, though obviously no as many per capta as you do. Am I one of them? You betcha, but NOT in a game with novices involved. John Blubaugh
