But does that make them correct? I think of Ethics being tied to moral issues and right conduct. Proprieties, I consider issues of customary and polite conduct. The two can be the same at times. But not always. Of course, an American arguing with an Englishman(?) about the English language may be a battle lost before it starts. You can always claim home court advantage.
