Sounds like you are using Outlook Express as your newsreader.

While in rec.games.okbridge, from the main menu, try View / Current View.
If you see any option checked except View All Messages, OE will tell you
"View Applied" -- for some reason or another, not necessarily bad, not all
message headers are visible.

I use this feature to Hide Read Messages.
