AMOEBA Phase 7 Unlimited Token Movement You have the power to ooze. When you are a main player in a challenge, after selecting Challenge Cards but before revealing them, you may increase or decrease the number of your tokens in the challenge. You may remove some or all to your bases, or you may add as many more as you want to your side of the challenge from any of your bases (as long as you had some in the challenge to start with). If you are the offensive player, you may ooze more than four tokens into the cone. HISTORY: Spawned on a totally liquid world, Amoebas are highly conscious of vibrations. Though quick to withdraw from danger, they are equally able to ooze menacingly into combat when confronted with the proper turbulences. Amoebas have no pity on those who are less able to respond to circumstance. FLARE Phase 4,5,6 Wild: As a main player, you may increase or decrease the number of your tokens in the challenge before Challenge Cards have been selected. You can ooze more than four tokens onto the cone as the offensive player. Phase 7 Super: You may ooze into or out of a challenge as an ally. You must commit at least one token during the alliance accept/decline step in order to use this Flare. PULSAR Phase 7 Con: As main player against Amoeba, he may only ooze in or out of the challenge before Challenge Cards are selected. phase 8 Pro: You may ooze your tokens out of the challenge after cards are revealed. Eon/Avalon: No changes. Experience Rating: Advanced (A Novice can understand it, but a more experienced player will have a better grasp how best to use it.) Commentary: This is a combat power. In my personal opinion, I don't particularly care for this one because it requires too heavily on your most important limited resource, namely your tokens. Several times I have seen players with Amoeba put in a lot of tokens only to have lost the challenge. With so many of their tokens in the warp, they were quite limited in challenges and rarely used the power again in the game. However, I do have to admit that I once lost a challenge I could have won if only I used the Wild Amoeba Flare which provides the same ability. Amoeba is terrific with some powers in multi-power games such as Zombie and Virus, but by itself I tend to pass. It is true that every point counts and that having 6 tokens in the challenge is better than 4. However, it all depends on how much of a risk taker you are. Are you willing to risk several of your tokens to compensate the several tokens your opponent gained from allies? It would help if you have some control over your opponent's Challenge Card. Amoeba/Oracle is a very nice combo, but Amoeba/Sorcerer, Amoeba/Gambler, or Amoeba/Visionary at the very least give Amoeba some good back-up. As a stand alone power, I try to stay away from it. For the Pro Pulsar, I had intended for it to be used only when Amoeba is a main player as described on the power card even though as worded it can be interpreted to mean any challenge. Since the spirit of all Pros on Pulsar Cards is to make a power quite strong on purpose, I am willing for it to allow Amoeba ooze out of any challenge even if he's only an ally. Also, the Mayfair rulebook lists Amoeba/Macron (original version) as a contradicition. It is logical to guess that the reason for this is the limitation that Macron can only put one token into the cone. However, I say Amoeba/Macron is a Super Combo. Putting aside Macron, all players have a limit to the number of tokens they can put on the cone, namely 4. Amoeba allows them to go above this limit. Therefore, even though Macron specifically has a limit of 1, Amoeba's power still allows a player to go above the limit on the number of tokens that can be put on the cone. This is true even if Cone Size 3 moon or similar is in effect. Amoeba player ignores all number of token limits, regardless of any limits other players have. Gerald Katz
