> Since then I have lost 500 dollars before quitting for good today. First of all you made the big mistake. Don't gamble with more than you can afford to lose. Obviously if you have to pick up another campus job then you are playing outside of your means. BIG MISTAKE! > Here's a sample hand: > I'm dealt 44 on the button, a raise in front of me, I call everyone else > folds, headsup. Yes, happens often. Good idea to call with the 4s just in case a set hits, but don't want to waste money with a raise there. > This is a typical situation where the thievery begins, the site knows > that a headsup pot can't generate much rake, so it action flops to build > the pot. Flop comes 10 6 7. Now I've been watching this guy play for > about 15 hands and I determined him to be tight, there is no way this > flop could have helped him. Ok, this was your first mistake. Why try and steal a pot with 44? He would only need a 10, 6 or 7 to take you at this point, let alone if he has something else like almost pocket anything! I would have check raised on this one, and if he re-raised I would have folded with a doubt. You can't know a player after 15 hands 100% ESPECIALLY online. Often I will purposely play shitty hand public to allow people to underestimate my abilities. I bet he raises, i reraise, he caps. Turn > comes K, now I'm a bit worried, but still think I'm in the lead, I bet > he raises, I call, ok now I'm scared, I would have check called or even > folded on the river, but guess what comes... you probably don't even > need to, another 4. With a potential straight on the board on the flop, this 4 is a dangerous thing for you. Hitting a low set like this is where gambling comes in. > Impossible, who raises with 89o without prior knowledge, > what are the odds of the river card forcing me to build the pot?? I see this happen often, and there are times when I feel lucky and call with 89o. He was agressively betting from the beginning. The potential flop was right at the start, yet you took it to the end with 44? This can happen a lot to people like yourself how play low hands that far. It's easy to hit a low anything, to win a pot with a low anything is luck! I play everyday for an hour or two at $1-$2 tables. Lowstakes, but you know what? I average $1500 a month doing it! That is $18,000 a year playing poker. Now, do you know why I win consistently? Agressive betting on HIGH hands, and instant folding on anything less than TOP hands(AA, KK, QQ, JJ, TT, 99, 88 and A anything at least till the flop.) I fold about 60% of the hands I get pre-flop, and win 70% of the flops I see (counting the ones I check into with the big blind). That is what playing tight, and letting go of 44 with a flop like T, 7, 6 will get you. Why spend money on an unsure hand? I'd like to say I am not attacking your play, but I am! Read carefully what I say, and then ponder the situation you got yourself into. Poker is as much protecting yourself from losing as it is trying to win. The only cards you should EVER doubt at the table are your own! "Don't depend on the rabbit's foot. Look what it did for the rabbit."
