Massachusetts takes a unique approach for this type of game. For the daily numbers (0...9) they don't have a Pick-3 game. They have just the Pick-4 (0000...9999). The player can play for just 1 number (any position), 2 numbers (front pair or back pair), or 3 numbers (front triple or back triple). That's in addition to treating it as a standard Pick-4 with all four numbers. For the pairs, triples, or all four the player can choose to play them straight or boxed. For a $1 play, payout for a single-digit win is about $4 to $7 (parimutuel). It's some fun to play the single digit combined with a money management method like you mentioned in another post. You can make a modest amount if the parimutuel runs around $7 and you happen to hit inside 6 or 7 draws. Trouble is, like all daily numbers games eventually they just chip away at your funds, without the chance for any big Jackpot looming ahead. Still, it's an innovative way for them to design the game. The 7:1 payout is better than the average 2:1 payout for most Pick-3 and Pick-4 games. Joe
