I deal the game. I can most assuradely tell you that people who don't hit 16 on a dealers 7-A lose... a lot. Give me a table full of them and I can stuff the box and rack with the losses. As far as one person not playing BS affecting the rest of the table, it's again pure bullshit. I've seen it work for the players, I've seen it work against. The table howls when it works against them, and usually quietly pat themselves on the back, or offer the risk taker a quiet thanks. The signal to noise ratio is way out of proportion to the results. The only advantage the house has is the statistical certainty of the math. Do hunches work? Sure! Always? Never. And that's the beauty of the long term math.... Some people walk away thousands ahead on the game; thousands lose hundreds. In the end, the light stay lit, the bells still clang, and the fool wearing the funny shirt still smiles and is ready to deal another hand. The best advice I can give any player is play the basic strategy like religion (unless you want to count cards etc.) and hope for that streak where you can do no wrong, and the dealer continues to pay. When that happens, run when you get ahead.
