>Subject: Over The Short Term: BS vs. Counting
QUESTION:
>Am I correct in assuming that for the short term (8 hrs.), an accurate basic
strategy player enjoys about as good a shot at going home a winner as does an
accurate counter?
ANSWER:
>Using standard deviation calculations, a perfect basic strategy player who
keeps his bets reaonably flat and plays for 8 hours will have about a 45%
chance of finishing ahead. For a card counter in a shoe game spreading from
1-to-10, it's around 55%.
But don't forget -- one 8 hour session piggybacks onto the next, and the
next. Eventually, your chances become 10% for the B/S player and 90% for the
card counter.
